A Piece of the Oscars Carpet Ended Up in Someone’s Living Room

After the 2026 Academy Awards, Los Angeles resident Paige Thalia found part of the actual Oscars red carpet being disposed of after the ceremony. She took home an approximately 8 ft × 6 ft piece and turned it into a rug for her apartment. The story went viral, and an Oscar winner reportedly even wanted some of the carpet as a keepsake.

This is probably the best sequel to the story. Someone associated with All the Empty Rooms, which won an Oscar in 2026, contacted Thalia asking for a piece for himself and additional pieces for the film’s director and team. Thalia said she was happy to share it, but hasn’t publicly named the winner.

• Manufacturer/supplier: The carpet has historically been produced for the Oscars by Event Carpet Pros, with manufacturing taking place at a carpet mill in Dalton, Georgia. The exact mill is kept confidential.
• Material: It is a synthetic, nylon-based event carpet. Earlier reporting describes the Oscars carpet as fabricated from nylon; other reporting on the event carpet describes a recycled-material, sisal-style construction.
• Colour: The official shade is known as “Academy Red.”
• Actual appearance: Despite being called red, it’s much closer to a deep burgundy/wine/crimson red. The precise colour specification is deliberately kept secret by the Academy to prevent copying.
